So what are we the guesses for creatures in this set?

Looking at the 1e MM, we have displacer beast, demons, devils, dinosaurs and dragons for D. I would love to see a 1e Doppelgänger.

Eye of the Deep is under E, as well as Ettins, Efreeti or any of the elementals.

For F there are only 3 entries , flightless bird, giant Frogs, or violet Fungi. Only frog and the fungi have drawings.

Hopefully we get an Eye of the Deep. I think that would likely move the collection, though I'm more fond of the 3rd edition version.

I can see either dinosaurs or dragons, though a displacer beast seems likely given how "classic" it is.

I guess, though so far, note that all the creatures in A-B-C have been those that also had an 5E counterpart.
My guesses are:

Displacer Beast is a given
One Dragon, likely the Red seeing as it is on the book cover
Ettin
One type of Elemental - Fire, probably.
Flumph
Froghemoth
Flameskull, perhaps.
Does whatever a Spiderdragon can!

The standard Icons of the Realms line doesn't have miniatures for Flameskulls (well, except that dreadful Barnabus the Flameskull miniature) and Violet Fungi.

If they include them in this boxed set, I would be both excited to finally have miniatures for them in Icons of the Realms and enraged that they were locked behind a boxed set.

I doubt that a tiny, flaming skull or a big, purple fungus would be the miniatures to move a box set anyway.

Well, the artwork in the first edition Monster Manual is not glorious. Sure, it is nostalgic, but making that flat black print into a mini is going to take some creativity, if there is hope of any resemblance to the source. Looking at the dragons, the are so far off from what I’d consider the “Iconic” D&D look, that I’m not sure which, if any they would choose (except Tiamat is listed in the D’s, so we know she’ll be picked!). I picked out some of what I consider the better artwork from Monster Manual, but I’m wondering if we might see some creatures from the Fiend Folio or Monster Manual 2 in these sets. Some letter are fairly sparse of creatures (but not D, that’s for sure), so pulling from a few other 1st edition sources might make sense. I just don’t know if those subsequent monster books are famous enough to foster the nostalgia that this line is going for. For now, I’ll contain what I found to just the Monster Manual.

Demons: There are a lot, including Demogorgon, Juiblex and Orcus, but I thought the best images were:

Mane, Succubus & Glabrezu
Image Image Image

Devils: There is more potential here, especially with some of the named ones:

Asmodeus, Baalzebul, Horned Devil & Pit Fiend
Image Image Image Image

Forget any of the Dinosaurs. They’re all unremarkable, and about half don’t even have artwork.

I think any of these guys might have a chance. I especially like the look of the doppleganger, before they became a featureless bland gray lump of clay:

Displacer Beast, Djinni, Doppleganger
Image Image Image

Dragons : Wow, the 1st edition artwork for dragons is pretty bad in my opinion. I think one of the biggest problems is that the images go so against what I now think of as the iconic style for D&D dragons. I can’t imagine the set would forgo a dragon mini, but choosing a suitable one was hard. I guess I’d go with one of these (I picked Tiamat because she is iconic, in vogue and would show off all five chromatic dragons, ot because I felt there was a void to fill):

Black Dragon, Tiamat, Gold Dragon
Image Image Image

And lastly a few other ones I think would be good (no elementals, they just were too bland):

Dragonne, Efreeti & Eye of the Deep
Image Image Image

If it were me making the set, I’d pick the Mane, Asmodeous, Horned Devil, Doppelganger, Dragonne and Eye of the Deep.
Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.

I wouldn't count any named devils/demons because of the separate line they are already running. I also wouldn't count any dragons in the mix, they're everywhere else. I'd take the 1e dragonne for sure.

Greatest art work of all time..... take it back!!!!! I I prob of never played period if it was not for the art work of the 70s and early 80s.! :P

I would be all over these sets it WK was not so gouge with the price tag.

I would not be surprised for
Displacer Beast
Dragonne
Eye of the Deep
Red Dragon
Doppleganger
Flump
or Violet Fungi (over common)even if there was no art.

I had forgotten the Red Dragon was on the cover. There’s certainly more in that picture to draw upon than in the actual listing. In fact the missing horns in the black and white image add to the weirdness of that picture:

Fungi, Violet does have a pic, albeit not a great one:

And Flumph isn’t in the Monster Manual, it’s in the Fiend Folio, so I don’t know if it would be considered or not. If so, then there are a lot of great monsters in the Fiend Folio and Monster Manual 2 that might be selected.

I'd pay $1000 for a Succubus statue based on the original art, and imagine many others would too.
Unfortunately, they're too scared of their own shadow to even do the cover of the 1e Monster Manual accurately.
So, it's not going to happen.

So far they seem to be going with the ones with very stylized art, so I’m thinking:

Displacer Beast
Doppleganger
Dragon, Gold or Red
Efreeti
Elemental, Fire
Eye of the Deep
Fungi, Violet

If the demons and devils the Vrock, Ice Devil, and Bone are the most flavorful and unique to this edition.

Baalzebul is unlikely, but man do I really want a mini of him done in the first edition style.

The Marilith is even more risqué, I’m surprised TSR put this in the Monster Manual:

Image

Aside from the nudity she is a decent marilith. I like that she wields a variety of different types of swords.

Mattnuke, I kind of dismissed all the elementals because there is not all that much that screams retro about them. If you seen one fire entity you’ve seen them all. Case and point, the only thing that differentiates all the fire elementals is advancements in technology, otherwise they all kind of match:
