Some of that is just sales tax (normal stuff) but all toys - sports and games from the US to Canada now apparently have a 25% tariff on themBBShockwave wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 6:23 pm Isn't there some official info on your customs office's webpage? They cannot just arbitrarily raise customs fees without telling you...

Can you break down the cost? Was it shipped through UPS by chance? I'd wager you got hit with Brokerage charges, for the bulk of it.mikdc29 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 3:46 pm Well, I got slapped with a pretty big customs fee from a relatively modest size coolstuffinc order of Underdark singles.
$130 US and then got welcomed with over $70CAD in customs. Usually it's like a third of that or less, even for orders bigger than this.
Anyone else with a similar experience?
Let me know if you HAVEN'T gotten dinged though - I'd like to know how to avoid this madness if at all possible.

That's weird, since last I heard, tariffs do not equal taxes 100%...mikdc29 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:31 pmSome of that is just sales tax (normal stuff) but all toys - sports and games from the US to Canada now apparently have a 25% tariff on themBBShockwave wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 6:23 pm Isn't there some official info on your customs office's webpage? Re: Canada - US tariffs
There would be a fixed brokerage charge, plus the 25% tariffs, plus the 14% sales tax. Wow. Ideally the G7 summit this week will get things under control...BBShockwave wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 8:43 amThat's weird, since last I heard, tariffs do not equal taxes 100%...mikdc29 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:31 pmSome of that is just sales tax (normal stuff) but all toys - sports and games from the US to Canada now apparently have a 25% tariff on themBBShockwave wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 6:23 pm Isn't there some official info on your customs office's webpage? DHL in Canada will ding ya with a 50% duty charge (hold it ransom) .... They do not care about what it is ... they will ding ya. (they suck!) Skip them if you can every time!

It's in my city, I can't wait until it's over, heh. As much as I understand the need for so much security, it's caused so much chaos.
Regarding the Tariffs though... agreed. We can only hope cooler heads prevail.

Re: Canada - US tariffs
I only ever ship USPS which gets handed off to Canada Post.
Other companies will likely charge a ridiculous brokerage fee.
If Canada Post decides to charge tax (they often don't understand $100 USD) then it will be sales tax plus a $10 customs fee.
The 25% tariffs is disappointing. Glad I was able to use most of my gift cards on dndmini before it went into effect.
