One of the things I have liked doing is adding or changing small things on the pre-painted figures. Add a back pack, do a head swap or weapon swap or some other detail. In some cases it doesn't seem to make a big difference but in others it can change the figure a lot.
Here are a few I have done this last month or so:
Head Swap:

Weapon, arm, and legs swap:

I see lots of re-painting but does anyone do customization changes?

Re: dafrca's minor changes
I've done a few, nothing to write home about. I have an idea in mind for some storm giant armor and I think everything I need to get it done...except time.
Yours are cool, btw.

This is too expensive.
Re: dafrca's minor changes
Yeah, that's pretty cool!
Although mostly with unpainted minis, I do enjoy making minor changes, like swapping weapons and such. Either to make them work better for a certain PC/NPC, or if there are multiples of the same sculpt, and I want some variation.

Re: dafrca's minor changes
Here is my latest "slight adjustment".
I picked up a "Thug Leader - Waterdeep Dungeon of the Mad Mage" this week. When he arrived I could not stop thinking he must be a pinhead. I hated how small his head was, so I spent some time with small scalpel and removed the micro head and replaced it with a head I felt better fit the body. Here he is next to some "added muscle" that also joined my collection.

Re: dafrca's minor changes
Another head swap and weapon add-on to give a miniature a different look. The chap on the right got a Samuel Jackson head and the nice Dwarf in the center gave up an axe for an assault gun. Both along with the halfling will be used in a couple of Sci-Fi games.

Re: dafrca's minor changes
Hmmm...I have that thug leader plus three of his henchmen and they are all basically the same guy, just the leader has a crossbow. I love the idea of adding new heads. I have lots of confidence when it comes to repaints, but little when it comes to making other alterations - I need to take a cue from you and go for it.

Re: dafrca's minor changes
Clint; Head swaps are the easiest of the changes I believe I have done. Often you can get the head off clean and with minimal effort fit a new head on and then glue it into place.
I encourage you to give it a try. Makes for some fun variations.
Top picture; Left is mini as it came, right is mini with head from Star Wars figure.
Bottom Picture: Figure on left was originally a Heroclix Joker, switched the head and nothing else and will make a great PC/Runner type character.
