Approved Species and Race Tags

Post by Kor »

Due to the sizeable amount of species and race tags, all the approved tags will not be listed here, and instead I will try to set out the general guidelines for adding them.

Generally, what ever the creature name is as found in the Monster Manual (or similar source) is the "species name" for the tag.

In some cases a specific sub-set of a species might also have a species/race tag as well, such as:
  • A black bear will have both the black bear tag and the bear tag, since it has a genus tag of ursine. This will be similar for most animals.
  • Many humanoids are also similar, such as wood elves who will have both the wood elf tag and the elf tag, since it has a genus of humanoid.
Some exceptions would include dragons, gith, and yuan-ti, where these tags are genus tags.

When I perform a search, will the tag have to be put in the proper field, or will there just be a tag field I can throw them all in? For instance, if I wanted to search for ursine minis, would I pick (or enter) ursine from the genus field or will I just throw ursine in a tag field and the search will check for that tag in any or all categories?
Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.

Ideally the planned design will be this:

A search bar will appear at the top of the screen and the default will be to just search mini names. I will look into having javascript enabled to for auto-completing and/or listing the available tag options, as the user starts to enter the name. (I've never done an interface like that before, but I should be able to do it). Also on this search bar will be an "Advanced Search" button.

Advanced search will bring the user to new side display panel which will have search parameter options with checkmarks next to them: these would include check boxes for theme (sci-fi, fantasy), for type (mini, accessory), sizes, rarity, and product lines. The search field will then ask the user to select a search type: search mini name / search all mini tags / search specific tags. (The default will likely be search all mini tags).
- similar to the search I described above, when the user selects "search all mini tags", then as they type the name of a tag, the auto-complete will be available, and the user will have the ability to enter multiple tags they wish to search for.
- selecting search specific tags will then reveal additional search fields for each category of tags. The user will populate each field with the tags they wish to search, and then select a "search selected tags" button. Each category will give a list of some of or all of the possible tags that can be searched in that category.

This was a very early non-functioning prototype I made over a year ago for the advanced search page, and based on the details I provided above, many aspects of this will change, but might give you a basic idea of some of the parameters involved:
