Best of the Best Discussion - Demonweb
Re: Best of the Best Discussion - Demonweb
Black Dragon Lurker (Young) - This is just such a perfect example of a Black Dragon with its pose!

Iron Dragon Prowler (Adult) - We really should've gotten more Iron Dragons than the two we did get. They're really cool!

Gnoll Demon Adept - Just a really good, vicious looking Gnoll! Could easily work as a warband leader or miniboss.

Re: Best of the Best Discussion - Demonweb
Demonweb is an easy set to choose from, because there are very few decent minis in this set. The design style is almost completely different from the more realistic look of before. Almost the entire set is poorly sculpted, poorly painted, and have a cheap toy look.
But this thread is to talk about the positive, so...
Skull Lord - Interesting BBEG mini. Sculpt is better than most in the set, even if the paint isnt great. Best of the 2 options we have for this creature.
Black Dragon Lurker - One of my favorite large dragons. a bit flat on the black, but the sculpt is good enough to make the mini look good. The new Red Dragons adventure in a box set has a red dragon that looks very similar in pose.
Human Bandit - Thief with a big sack of loot...hah. This is a simple fun mini. Looks realistic enough. Tells a bit of a story. Have had a few players use an PC mini, but mostly I use it for chase encounters, when the PCs are chasing after someone. Great mini.

Re: Best of the Best Discussion - Demonweb
I don’t k ow if it is my bias against 4th edition artwork or if the paint job on some of these minis is lackluster, but there are some fairly bad minis in this set. Then, there are some that I consider quite well done. And, the ones that have made it to the table most have more to do with what they represent than their quality.
My picks:

Drow Demonbinder A one of a kind Drow mini that fits in well with their demon ties. I actually like the promo version in purple a tad more, but either one is a welcome addition to my Drow warband.
Thoon Hulk The blade hands originally turned me off, but after finding out more about this construct it was a must have for my Mindflayer warband. Out of my three picks this is the only one I’ve used at the table, and its appearance provoked fear when it did. I ended up getting a second because of its potential, and I can easily justify more than one construct through the Drow’s motivations.
Skull Lord In my opinion, this is still the best Skull Lord to date., even though we have gotten a few more in the Icons of the Realms line. This may be because I prefer the older artwork it is based off, and even though we have three alternatives they all look very similar to each other. I never did get the Undead Armies mini, because I felt it was very similar to the Volo and Mordenkainen’s Foes vesrion.

Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.

Re: Best of the Best Discussion - Demonweb
Ah, Demonweb. As a young kid (probably 10 or 11) I got a couple packs of this set and the 4e starter set with the Eladrin Pyromancer and the Green Dragon. I never found anyone to play with so I didn't buy too many more. Star Wars was waaaay more popular among my friends. Something about growing up in the prequel era, despite the problems with those movies.
Honorable Mention: Solamith. Not a good mini by any stretch of the imagination. But it was weird enough that it was my favorite back then. I could probably paint this one up a bit and make it look okay if I hadn't sold all my old DDM about 10 years ago.
I think this is not the right place to express my hatred for the Dragonborn Paladin of Bahamut, so I'll hold that in.
