Epic Encounters cave of the manticore
Epic Encounters cave of the manticore
If you need a gargantuan manticore, SFG has one.
It released on the August 22nd and the full retail is $49.99Re: Epic Encounters cave of the manticore
There was another box that came out the same day. Camp of the bandit twins, nothing stood out except that there were a bunch of heavy crossbowman and 4 guys mounted on rams!!! The price point was $54.99 for 18 minis.
Gallant goblin has videos for both of these boxes.

Re: Epic Encounters cave of the manticore
I have a bunch of the Epic Encounters minions sets - the sculpts are excellent and they are very good value, especially considering they contain a number of large miniatures. One thing that bugs me a bit is that they are often posed on very large skateboard which are then permanently affixed to very thick bases, making each miniatures too tall compared to the rest of my collection, so they are hard to mix and match with Reaper, Wizkids, etc. But used as intended - as a complete encounter - they are great.
I haven't bought any of the gargantuan miniatures, though - I think that they are overpriced for what you get, even though the sculpts are once again gorgeous. Maybe if I see them on sale.

Miniature Market has been running sales pretty routinely on the big monster boxes. They’re usually about $20 a piece when they do.

This looks pretty awesome! I know in D&D the Manticore has a spiked tail, but I still have nostalgia for the scorpion-tail design.

This is a pretty great looking Manticore!
I already have the Mythic Battles: Pantheon version, which is also oversized. I wonder how big of a difference there is between the two? Looking at the mini in comparison to its base size, it looks like it's roughly the same, but with the Epic Encounters one having much larger wings and standing on a rock. The MB:P one comes on an oval base measuring 10.5mm x 7mm.
I think these would be roughly scaled correctly to each other:
In which case, not too much of a difference in actual size. But the EE Manticore certainly has the more flight capable wings, and being positioned upwards on a rock it looks more intimidating. The MB:P Manticore has wings that looks more like they could give it small speed boosts to leap far, maybe even glide a bit, and it has a clean base.
I'm perfectly happy with my MB:P Manticore though, so I won't be getting this.

I have no nostalgia for either version, but I think the scorpion tails generally makes Manticore designs cooler for me.BBShockwave wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 2:31 pm This looks pretty awesome! I know in D&D the Manticore has a spiked tail, but I still have nostalgia for the scorpion-tail design.

I love the snazzy beard on that guy.
It was more reddish in hue but looked largely the same. Could paralyze though which was a nifty affliction.
Hehe, yeah, the upgraded version, though it was Scorpicore (no second 'o').
