So, did WotC fire their art director or something, figuring that position wasn't needed? Because between this and the Bone Roc, it looks like no one looked at this with a critical eye and just okayed it...

This looks a LOT like one of those toys everyone uses as proxies. At least the pricing isn't 5x those toys...only 2x

This mini is on a huge base and it looks like Vecna crossed a black dragon with a monstrous spider.

It looks cool, but i think i'll draw the line here, because it seems you can now cross every creature type with each other.
CASH GRAB.
It's okay that mind flayers can do it and that beholders dream up strange creatures, but this is too much imo.

Even though i contemplate to buy it for a Menzoberranzan campaign where a highpriestess or archmage has created this monstrosity with a wish/miracel spell.

What is happening.... are these April 1st release dates?

5 Editions worth of monster manuals you could pull from, and you make minis of this stuff?

Update: If it didn't have the long neck it could pass as a Dragonspawn Blackspawn Stalker from MM IV in 3.5 edition.

if they are leaking these minis as a way to inspire excitement about the new Vecna campaign...yeah it's not working.

Vecna: Eve of Ruin is set 32.

The Spiderdragon & Bone Roc are listed for a july 2024 release.

Personally i hate the new Vecna look.
The Bone Roc is butt-ugly and the spiderdragon is such a unique Mini that you can only use it once.
$70 for the roc is utopic, this will soon be on deep discount.
$40 for the huge spiderdragon seems kind of okay, but $30 will probably be the end price (same as the derpy red dragon from the 50th anniversary set is).

Your annoyance is about 33 years too late. The Spider Dragon isn't new ;).

Otherwise I think he's great! Visibly a Black Dragon, corrupted by Lolth maybe? Experimented on by the Drow? Horrible magical accident? Lots of potential here.
