I am wondering why none have bases. Does this mean you will have to buy the separate bases packs?
Indeed it does. :|

Brophy wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2024 3:34 pm Single mediums for $4.49 - This bothers me, I get it's mostly because of packaging though.
Double Mediums for $5.99
Large $8.99
Huge $14.99

The 2 skeletons and the Marut & hippogriff are must buys for me though.
I thought singles were 5$ before or something, no? If not, they are still pretty cheap compared to most prepainted minis. I mean many of these are released as Rares in prepainted forms or are only available in special packs.
Yack wrote: Fri Apr 26, 2024 4:33 am I'm going to suggest these are now in single packs. (but the roadmen say a male and female) Damn thats one way to try to kill the market for unpainted.

Sea Lion, Crabfolk and of course will be impossible to get lizardfolk skeleton will be on my list to get and of course some bases. Man with these prices it may be cheaper to buy the ppm version now on some of these sculpts lol
Sea Lion you can get prepainted for 6$, only the Crabfolk are more expensive, usually 9$. Honestly, unless the prepainted version is a Rare, I think it is gonna be always cheaper to buy that one.
I was thinking more around really player characters/npc minis as you could get two different sculpts in a pack of unpainted for like $6 bucks CAN which was usually cheaper than what say KoL would sell a 2 single PPM for online of a player character. Unless a really dud common. But yeah rares ppm in unpainted were many times cheaper to get the unpainted sculpt. (I do not price my time of painting as its fun for me and usually better than anything ppm anyways) I price only on plastic and sculpt when it comes to unpainted.
But yes, your right...

My comments of course are under the assumption that some of these new medium unpainted packs only now contain one mini with the price hike.

So once again we don’t get bases with them which is pretty annoying. I don’t think it’s as annoying as the huge or greater ones like the snail and such, but still dumb and with a price increase is even more infuriating.

Weirdly I am not that bothered by the one per pack, but that’s because I generally don’t care about the “second” mini. I’m mostly buying the pack for the one sculpt I really like.

What really intrigues me is no more skateboards?! That is a huge positive if it turns out to be true. I hate wizkids skateboards and reapers stupid oval bases.

I honestly didn't even notice that. If that holds to be true than I say "It's about damn time"
I also forgot about the base issue, luckily I have a small mountain on order from NLM.

Wait...so no skateboards, and no bases? So you can't buy the miniatures and use them without also buying some bases, which hopefully the FLGS also has in stock (mine generally don't). That'll be real nice for the new collector who gets their single, overpriced miniature home and then has no way to use it.

If true, this is appalling. Like, it would make me very angry at Wizkids. I am surprised at how chill a lot of folks are being about what is A) a second de facto price increase, now charging us for something that used to come for free, B) a massive inconvenience, and C) extremely wasteful, as now we are paying for even more packaging just to get the bases.

I'm still salty that Wizkids never gave me a base for my flail snail, and doesn't even sell huge bases.

To me this, if true, is a giant FU from Wizkids to collectors, so I am going to give that right back to them. I won't buy any of these without bases or skateboards (I would prefer bases, but you need to give the user *something* so they can stay up). And, if true, I will point out to anyone who asks that if you buy these, you are getting an incomplete product.

Wizkids has the official license. That is their main selling point. But there are so many folks selling well sculpted miniatures, out of much better plastic, for far less that I have zero need to stick with Wizkids as they keep abusing my loyalty. For the past few years, their marketing strategy seems to be "how much less can we give these suckers while getting them to pay more?".

Clint, I am with you 100%. I will buy the Pathfinder minis but that's out of a desire to support Paizo. I can get the others as PPM or better equivalents.

Also, I have suspicions that the wafer bases will be problematic without skateboards. I mean, with Star Wars Legion, they specifically have texture on the bases to cement the feet better, and even then, I have to sand down the feet unevenly occasionally to get a good grip.

Not that this justifies omitting the bases from the unpainted line, but at least maybe you can get your Flail Snail back in the game:

They come in clear, too.
Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.

The Flail Snail is huge, though. Those bases are just Large. Clint, I do have extra huge bases and I will send you one if you like because I enjoy your posts. Just PM me if you want it.

Well, that’s super disappointing. A mostly bad selection, a poor price increase, and reused figures.

If they wanted to kill the line, the could have just said so.

I guess I’ll get a lunar naga. Nothing else here interests me at all, that I can’t already find for cheaper in prepainted.

Clint kind of nailed it...

I thought our first FU was the price of Icons to start with and less minis in a booster.

The second one was crying for years since ddm days that it's the paints steps that keeps the price rising and then unpainted became $10 less that a ppm when it comes to the gargantuan mini's releases.... ahh oh that makes sense.... scam.

Chases and rares I do not care that's for collectors... no effect for me.

This would be the third, and Clint makes a very crazy good point is this a force to buy bases because they are not included, and the skateboards are gone so they will not stand up and now you 100% have too but them from somewhere. Oh, and lets up the price a little too.... LOL

Man, the more I think of this Clint is darn downright correct.... maybe Vex can clarify if they are on skateboards or not. It's not Vex fault, but it would be good to get some clarity.

But like Mattnuke said if they wanted it to fail in time just stop making them and end the line. You did not have to use "oh look people stop buying them so they are the reason and fault" scapegoat.

If these don’t have skateboards—and personally I hope they don’t, although the only one it looks like I’ll be buying is the Marut since the others are the same poses as Icons minis (yeah, I know, I don’t really need a second Marut to begin with, but I’ll buy it anyway)—then I would wager they surely must have bases included. I know, I know, they only just recently dropped bases from the line, but the wave without bases still had skateboards.

WK would be crazy to release a wave with no skateboards and no bases, minis that can’t stand up on their own but are supposedly marketed to casual game-store impulse buyers. “I bought a mini for tonight’s game! It’ll work great for whenever my PC has the unconscious condition.”

Pretty sure that is Nolzur's motto.
I'm also pretty sure Nolzur is a goristo.

These do come with terrain bases; "skateboards" as you like to call them. The minis won't come pre-attached to them, but they'll have a base to glue the figure to. I know a whole bunch of generic terrain bases were sculpted, these are now generalized and you may see some figures coming with the same terrain base. I'm actually not sure if the included terrain base is randomized or pre-selected for each figure.

I haven't been involved with UPM since wave 21, nor was I included in discussions on these line changes. I really should bite my lip on this subject from here on out.
