Best of the Best Discussion- Dangerous Delves
Re: Best of the Best Discussion- Dangerous Delves
Hippogriff: This looks like a really nice sculpt, it has a good pose, and the turqouise accent colour looks great!

Bonechill Chimera: Just a really, really cool Chimera mini!

Goblin Delver: Though the paintjob leaves a lot to be desired, this is partially because of how much details are sculpted onto this small mini, requiring more paint steps. It's a very cool miniature, and one I could see myself using quite a bit.

I'm going to echo the Goblin Delver, I really love that mini. It has so much character even if, yes, the paint is somewhat lacking. I don't have many other minis from this set, I used to own the Eye Tyrant but it didn't wow me at all. I'm going to say the Minotaur Battle Shaman, mainly because he was super easy to mod massive swords onto for a PC like 10 years ago.

Re: Best of the Best Discussion- Dangerous Delves
It would seem that aside from Lords of Madness, these later sets aren’t my favorites. Dangerous Delves is probably the wort of these. Part of it is because the minis represent 4th edition creatures like the Frost Giant, Gnoll, Troll, and Medium Minotaur, while some others are just poor sculpts or poor paint jobs like the Grimock or Githyanki. Still, there are some solid minis and even a few good ones. Here’s my picks:

Bladerager Troll - I have quite a few trolls. The Bladerager was unique enough to make him stand out, just like the War Drums War Troll, and then some of the later ones like the Dire and Rot Trolls. I dislike the cartoony big head on Skalmad and the Feral and Legendary Evils War Troll, I actually traded all of them away that I had. I guess I like my Trolls to be tall and lanky…
Cyclops Crusher - A solid addition the the other DDM Cyclops minis, The Pathfinder concept of the Cyclops is too small, which unfortunate since Pathfinder gave us non-thug variants. And the 5th edition Cyclops is Huge and looks much more human. So, I will gladly take the Crusher to beef up my warband.
Medusa Archer - I like Medusa’s having a ranged weapon. If their gaze is mitigated, I don’t think they would charge into battle. Instead they would stand off at a distance and use a misslemweapon until another opportunity to use their gaze arises. This is a simple mini, but suits my concept of the Medusa as well.
Goblin Delver - While not in my top three picks, I included a picture since so many others are voting for him. He seems best suited as an NPC type, and is perfect as a Sherpa type role. I’ve settled in on the ochre colored goblins for my main warband, but never could trade this guy off.

Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.
Re: Best of the Best Discussion- Dangerous Delves
"Delving" into this set again, I am tempted to go back into the Worst of the Worst poll discussion and vent some more.
So much disappointment, or at least "meh" here.
I can find 3 minis to vote for, but they don't hold up when compared to the best from other sets.
Since everyone is talking about it, yes I always wanted to like the Goblin Delver more than I do. The concept is great, with so much potential ! but the 4e gob-liens (goblin aliens) in this set were not well done. They have no detail and hardly even look like the artwork, with a near flat/blank face.

Githzerai Zerth - Simple but effective and my group use it all the time, even for other humanoid races. This is my fav Gith mini (i use the Githzerai and Githyanki interchangeably). Its a dramatic pose with the cloak billowing, and makes a great mage/monk.
Skalmad, the Troll King - I dont really like this mini because of the oversized head and cartoony look...but they do a good job pulling it off. The sculpt has a lot of detail, and the paint was applied really well, so even though I personally dont like it, I think it is the most well done mini in the set.
Bladerager Troll - Meh.... I had a hard time finding a 3rd worth voting for. This is unique and the only one of its kind, so it gets a vote for being passable.
