Welp, not a big fan of the face but it could be worse. Body looks nice. Not a fan of changing the iconic look but I’m all set on every size of the chromatic so why not do some different ones. Best thing is the price point is surprising! I expected them to try for $100 or $120 at least. Might be one of those “first one is a discount” deals.

I think this has to do with scale. It's a true 3" Huge base, whereas the prrevious Adult Black Dragon was on a 4" base. Further, the 10" wingspan this advertises should be compared to the previous Adult Black which was 10" tall. So this will be a little smaller. It's a perk, for sure, good for the table.bshugg wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 11:14 pm Welp, not a big fan of the face but it could be worse. Body looks nice. And so it begins... And means more money saved for me. I just don't like the new designs, at all. Here too the head does not look like a skull, it looks like he painted it white like some edgy teen goth Dragon.
They could at least name this as "Adult Black Dragon (2025 artwork)" or something, because now they have two products with the same name, that'll be confusing for retailers.
The pose is really weird. It's like he is walking on his hind legs, awkwardly holding his front legs forward, trying to mimic a humanoid...
I am reminded of this Monty Python scene: Btw, 75 mm - that means this is only Huge. Glad they released all the Chromatics and Metallics in Gargantuan size before this shrinking began. Just hoping we get the Adult Amethyst Dragon before they swap to this new size everywhere.
And sad that this means we will never get Gargantuan sized classic looking Dracoliches for Red and Black Dragons.

You don't! Safari made a better Xenomorph Dragon!

Does whatever a Spiderdragon can!
Re: D&D Icons of the Realms: Adult Black Dragon
Oh, good grief. Are they REALLY going to make these smaller than all the adult dragons thus far?! They're not even done with the old line yet. This is absolutely devastating news to me.

Apologies to whomever wanted to keep this positive…
What the actual ^#~** is that…. It looks like a black dragon had an emo day and put some makeup on…. Easy pass.
And so the new edition money grab begins.

$80 for a huge...
I'm starting to wonder why I'm here. My interest level is almost NIL for all these new releases.

I just saved a ton of money by switching to a purchasing freeze. Currently on track to keep my wife and be spoiled again later.

Re: D&D Icons of the Realms: Adult Black Dragon
I have nothing against the design; I have no particular attachment to the old 5e designs and I'm a big proponent that every dragon should look unique anyway (not just by type, but as individuals). For the right encounter, the more skeletal-looking face could be ideal.
That said, I have a full set of old-5e chromatics, and at $80 for a smaller-scale mini I can't justify buying any of the new design ones. Good luck to those that do, but these will be a hard pass for me purely from an expense/storage perspective.
The one question I have is - since this is using the exact same product name of the earlier black dragon "Icons of the Realms: Adult Black Dragon" does this mean the old chromatic designs are being retired? That would be a mistake I feel, as access to gargantuan-base dragons would remain in high demand IMO.

The only issue I see with this mini is the price and that horrid clear plastic rod that hold the Dragon up.
A creature with 5 limbs does not need an extra plastic piece to make it stand up.

Um, no. First $50 to unlock a “free” promo, now $80 for a huge.

Re: D&D Icons of the Realms: Adult Black Dragon
Wizards of the Coast’s changes to the dragons appearances has finally given me inner peace in that I have no sense of FOMO about these new dragons. I mean, I already have too many dragons, but had this been made in a more traditional look I probably would have ended up getting it anyways.
I’m happy, because now I have more funds for terrain, like the upcoming Warlock Tiles Sewer sets.

Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.
