I was more forgiving with Harbinger because they were just testing the market... but from here on, no mercy! haha
Water Elemental - When I look at it all I hear in my mind is "OHH YAAAA!!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fjEViOF4JE
Half Elf Sorcerer - No detail and the spear looks like a mop. The tavern cleaner has had enough of your BS!
Small White Dragon - The detail and paint are laughable.

That dwarf barbarian is more tiny than medium. Never used because every other dwarf is at least bigger.

Re: Worst of the Worst - Dragoneye
The kobold skirmisher’s crossbow (or is it a pick?) is comical.
The coloring on the abyssal may seems wrong, even if it dies somewhat match the 3.5 Monster Manual 2 artwork.

The Bugbear is out of place when compared to subsequent set offerings.

Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.

Re: Worst of the Worst - Dragoneye
There are plenty from this set that even back then I found really abysmally painted.
But the worst for me was the Elf Spearguard. It's like he is a supernaturally small and thin Elf that's been shrunken down. Just... does not fit among the other Elves, too tiny.
The Goblins and Hobgoblins from the set are not pretty either, their faces are really rough. Urthok especially with his painted on black gaping hole of a mouth. Sculpting for faces certainly came a long way since 3D printed molds are available, haven't they?
The Bugbear is just a weird thing. I don't think looks anything like any Bugbear before or after it, it looks more like a Medium sized 3E style Ogre with his wide nose and big mouth - at the same time, it is also not large enough for Bugbear compared to Human minis.
And a special mention is reserved for the starter of a trend - the Dwarven Werebear. It is a prefectly nicely sculpted and painted mini... it's just the wrong size. WotC unlike Wizkids thankfully realized their error and tried to rename it to save face - and we did get a proper Large Werebear in Angelfire. It's just annoying a bit.

Huh, odd why people voted for the White Dragon Wyrmling and the Gargoyle. I like the both. Sure the Dragon has a simple paintjob, but it is consistent with lore - White Dragons are born pure white, and they get more greyish as they age, so this is perfect for me.

LOL that derp face! I never seen that one in-hand. What's wrong with his clothes, btw? He favours the ripped torn clothing style, or ran too close to some cacti?

Haha! Actually, someone surprised him in the shower. He freaked out, grabbed the shower curtain and managed to rip it, before draping himself in it. He's still holding the shower curtain rod, not sure what to do with it now.BBShockwave wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 1:44 pm LOL that derp face! I never seen that one in-hand. Yeah, the one I had looked as bad as this, so I figure that's the norm for it. It's really terrible.

LOL I can totally see it. That staff or spear indeed looks like the curtain rod.Guyra wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 2:50 pmHaha! Actually, someone surprised him in the shower. Humanoid faces did not look great back then. I remember having the Druid from this set, the one with the antlers - pretty good mold otherwise but the face is really scrunched and hard to make out.

dwarf barbarian got my vote he is just tiny.
Hobgoblin Warrior same thing could of been great and he is just too short.
Bugbear pretty much the same as the above too what happened to the size.
p.s. I love the water elemental

Re: Worst of the Worst - Dragoneye
I voted for the Medium Air Elemental (just hate that mini, despite having a lot of them), Dwarf Barbarian (a little bit bigger would have made a perfect niche character but a tiny dwarf with a scimitar = meh) and for the last I had more candidates but ultimately picked the Copper Samurai (ridiculous pose running with his bow and too thin).
Compared to favourites I was more on point with others

I never gotten any samurai - to me it is just feels weird to have a specific Earth culture being present in Faerun.

Does that mean you don’t want Ninja’s in your world either?

Re: Worst of the Worst - Dragoneye
You also have other real world cultures strongly established - in fact, "typical" medieval Europe is the standard culture for most D&D. Others are also present, like other Asian cultures, Scandinavian/Norse, native American, etc.BBShockwave wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 1:54 am I never gotten any samurai - to me it is just feels weird to have a specific Earth culture being present in Faerun.
But I do understand you, though. It sort of feels out of place. I used to feel the same way about Japanese based culture - especially the samurai aspect of it - in D&D specifically, and I think it's due to it being so very specific in its visual representation compared to other cultures(even including other Asian ones). It also probably has to do with media representation.
Realizing this made it much less of a problem for me, though.

Nah, ninja are fine. They are just thieves/rogues/assassins who dress in camouflage garb, after all, something fantasy world assassins do as well. It's not like all ninja dress like they are from Naruto, after all.berk the black wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 6:47 am Does that mean you don’t want Ninja’s in your world either?

I don't want samurai for the same reason I likely won't get any greek armored heroes from the Mythic Odysseys of Theros set, they feel too much like our Earth. That'd be like having those PFB russian WW1 soldiers, to me. Different worlds, different cultures, different armor. We have a lot of armored warrior minis, but I'd say most of them do not resemble one specific country or Earth period, like samurai do.
