Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
The Angelfire set has a lot of useful minis, but I actually had a hard time picking out three that were clearly superior.
I picked the Hezrou as number one, I think it still holds up as the Best of the four versions we have.
Number two was the Blackscale Lizardfolk, he has seen a lot of use in my games.
The Ogre Mage is pretty good, too. We’re up to six different minis now, and I’d have no hesitation to use the Angelfire version on my table. But, there are a couple others I could say this about too.

Disclamer: I prefer black bases, and as such have painted many clear bases black. Pictures of my collection will reflect this, varying from the original way the mini was produced.
Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
I agree. Lots of good stuff to choose from in this set but not many jump out. Gonna have to think about this.
CARAVAN GUARD I have used this mini a tonne since it came out. Simple, but good enough that I never had an issue putting it out. The simpleness is what makes it very versatile; town guard, body guard, thug/bandit, commoner, and was a PC mini for 15 level.
For the use I have gotten alone it belongs on my list.
TUMPET ARCHON Still have not used it, but it is a well done mini. Looks great. When the time comes, I know it will be an important set piece to an adventure.
CELESTIAL PEGASUS I think this is the best one. Compare it to the Mounted Paladin horse in this set; good lookin horse
BLACKSCALE LIZARD it’s a bit dark, but still looks really good. I look for ways to bring this guy out.
BARBED DEVIL Best one we have, and the detail looks really good.
DIREGUARD Another very versatile mini that looks good enough that I have no problem putting it out. If you only had a few minis, this thing was all you needed for Skeleton boss, lich, black night…. Edge Lord PCs……
CHAIN DEVIL So sick….not the best….but soooo sick.
MINA DARK CLERIC Still have not used it but a high quality mini. Wish all the humanoids were of this level of quality. As far as quality of sculpt and paint, this is the best of the set imo.
OGRE MAGE Love it. Fits better in the Kara Tur setting though.
HEZRU Best we got. Great mini. Easy pic.
FERAL MINOTAUR Very interesting mini. Inspires some cool adventure encounter ideas. Quality is really good. Scary as hell. Look at those horns!
TROLL bare with me on this…. I think dnd basic trolls have mostly been crap. This one suffers from bad paint job, but the sculpt detail is at least there so that it can be touched up. I spent 30min doing some detailing, dry brush and washes, and it looks great! My fav basic troll to put out.

Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
This set has 4 different great Eberron Minis!
The one I've gotten the most use out of is the Blackscale lizardfolk - these residents of Q'barra have been used many times by me at the table, and always get the player's riled up, especially after using regular lizardfolk enemies a bunch.
I also love the Cleric of Dol Arrah - this mini came out before the book showing the iconography of Dol Arrah herself, but fits it perfectly - the design makes her practically her own holy symbol, the sculpt is quite unique too.
the 3rd I voted for was the Scorpion Clan Drow - I love me a Xen'drik drow with their chitin armor.
I also enjoy the Talenta Halfling. I just wish the clothes were re-used in the later released clawfoot rider, so without suspension of disbelief it could be for the same PC character.
For non eberron minis in the set - I do like the sculpt on the Genie a lot, as well as the Couatl (too bad they changed its size for 5E) and the Hezrou is still great.

Loved this set but then again it was the devils and demons that got me into D&D
I voted for the
large copper dragon as it is one of my fav dragons period. Love this guy and have like 3 of them.
Hezrou is just a beast and love it! (I think i have 10 of them)
And last is the Troll Slasher which to me has been and still is the most classic Troll. (I have 12 of them).
Loved this set as there was much more that could of made the list like the Imp, Werebear, Barbed devil, Red Slaad, Magmins, Weretiger and the Trumpet Archon also. The Stone giant was even decent at the time but even a little short for a large.

Agreed on other miniatures as well. Hezrou!!!
Thanks for continuing with this, Kor!

Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
I agree that there are some great Looking minis in this set.
I voted the following:
1. Hezrou - i actually never used this mini, which i aquired only this year, but it Looks Incredible, much better than the other versions.
2. Blackscale Lizardfolk - i used this one a lot, the first time shortly after the set came out and since then countless times as stand-in for large imposing melee-hitters. I havn´t used it in a long time, because nowadays i have the exact minis for almost all creatures, a shame.
3. Imp - because it is tiny! I actually brought 5 of these 4 weeks ago in the "Curse of the Crimson Throne" Pathfinder Campaign, but the Banshee that attacked us insta-killed them when it wailed for the first and only time.
I wish we had more tiny minis on tiny bases.

Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
1. Hezru - as others have said, it’s still the best sculpt of one that we have gotten. He’s even fairly easy to mod so you can have more than one pose!
2. Ogre mage - I’m really fond of this guy. He has a fairly dynamic pose. I’d like to see how this sculpt would have been treated with today’s sculpting advancements. I’m betting it would have gotten some really nice spell effects added to it.
3. Ghostly Consort - She was my go to for ghosts, banshees, and specters for a long time. I like how the her dress creates volume underneath her to make it look like she’s hovering.
My honorable mentions are the Steel Predator, Cleric of Dol-Arrah, Trumpet Archon, Blackscale Lizardfolk, and Orog Warlord. Overall this one was one of my favorite sets from early DDM.

Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
Gotta agree with Berk, it's hard to choose three that are superior to the others in this set. But in the end, this is what I ended up with:
#1: Hezrou - I mean, look at them! Confident and imposing! And it looks like a really goot sculpt and paint job!

#2: Feral Minotaur - Again, imposing! Very intimidating creature! I enjoy this minotaur design a lot! And the touch of blue on his chest there contrasts well with the warm coloured fur, making it look great!

#3: Kobold Soldier - Because kobolds! Really though, it's a cool kobold miniature, and as classic as it gets! Good, old spear boy! And also, he's got a knife bound to his tail!

Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
I actually like the Chraal, a creature that wasn’t updated in subsequent editions, but has been quite utilitarian as things like grey renders, marids or hezrous. If I needed multiples of large blue or green or grey minis, it is still a go-to.
Definitely like the ogre mage, weretiger and classic orcs and kobolds.
And the trumpet archon because it looks cool. The Sword Archon, on the other hand! It must be difficult to live as a sword archon, particularly around the dinner table, always having to spear its food...how would it eat peas? And it must be quite painful during let’s call them intimate occasions. Poor thing has to live with pointy stumps.

Re: Best of the Best: Angelfire
Agree. That Kobold is one of the best they have done. Near perfect.
This set is becoming really hard to judge. There are so many factors:
Best paint and sculpt
Best of that mini type
How much use it gets / versatility

If you walk away with a better appreciation of some overlooked mini in this set due to the discussion, then the thread is a win!

Hezrou, Dwarf Wizard, and Ulmo for me.
Easily the 3 I'd want copies of.

Trumpet Archon is my choice. This mini screams nobility, elegance and a sense of power. Nicely done.
