Best of the Best: War Drums
Re: Best of the Best: War Drums
#1: Warforged Barbarian - Alright, this guy just looks super cool and intimidating. I'm no Eberron fan, but I do like the Warforged, and this one has decorated himself with the skulls of his fallen enemies!

#2: Large Duergar - This is just a really nice, practical miniature to have for those Duergar encounters.

#3: Horde Zombie - Got to give a bit of credit to them for making a non human zombie! This orc zombie is very welcome to any zombie horde!

Re: Best of the Best: War Drums
This was another hard one as I thought this set lacked something...
Chimera is just awesome... love him.
Went simple and went with the Hobgoblin Archer because it was a huge need and I love the look.
Dragonne was next on my list as I love the sculpt and its a classic beast.
Large Duergar would of been next along with the Hill Giant Barbarian as he is my go to hill giant still.

Many good pieces here. I say:
Warduke because it's iconic even if I am unsure why. I mean, I never read anything with him in, but there is SOMETHING about it which makes a him a brutal, unsettling villain. Love it.
Arcane Ballista because it makes a great Dungeon Dressing piece;
Aspect of Hextor . I do not play Greyhawk but this is a super fun "boss" like monster, unique and super detailed.

There are a lot of great minis in that set....and picking 3 was quite difficult. Many of the commons are spectacular. I went with:
Zakya Rakshasa - because we need more Rakshasa and this model looks great. I've never seen one in person though.
Gulgar - another model that looks great.
Aspect of Hextor - agree with poster above that suggests this model looks great as a boss type monster.
Honorable mention to Axe Soldier which might be the only axe user in full plate I know of in the D&D Minis line....I wish I had 2-3 of these. I've got a player right now who would chose this as his mini.

Aspect of Hextor - still one of the meanest looking big bads we’ve had. He suffers a little from the limitations of the molding process at the time. His pose is a little stiff, but he’s still pretty imposing.
War Troll - I’m still a sucker for Wayne Reynolds art and this mini captures the art’s spirit pretty well.
Warbound Impailer - what’s not to love about a giant plant lion beast? It’s a unique take on plant monsters (a category we’re still shy on)

Re: Best of the Best: War Drums
This is hands down the best set WOTC ever did sculpt wise.
6 billion cries of agony will birth a new balance.
Re: Best of the Best: War Drums
Agreed. But not just the sculpts...the paint is solid too! The commons are close to what we get as rares these days!!!BaneOfHumanity wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 3:58 pm This is hands down the best set WOTC ever did sculpt wise.
To me I am seeing the best over all types here, not just individual minis. No idea what im picking yet...
ORCS – These are the best orcs produced, old or new, dnd or pathfinder. I sold off most of my other orcs in favor of hoards of these.. 4 of each type; King Obould, Howling, Mauler, Drummer, and Zombie. Just amazing.
I filled in the gaps with a few other specialty orcs, but this was the base of my orc warband.
WARFORGED – ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! A full party of PC Warforge in 1 set, all of high quality…. If you wanted to get people playing Eberron, this is how you do it! Just compare to the pitiful minis in the Eberron Rising from last war set! Stoopid warforge Ironman rip off.
LARGE DUERGAR – Only large we have. I have 4 and they see lots of table time. Looks great.
FIENDISH GIRALLON – I LOVE dropping this mini. Absolute beast! Yes it is a bit simple…. But soo well done!! The pose is amazing. Hands down, pun intended, the best Girallon
HILL GIANT CHIEF – If only he was huge…..
CHIMERA – Love it. Best we have to date.
ASPECT OF HEXTOR / MORADIN / WAR TROLL / SHULUTH / ZAKYA RAKSHASA – I think these are all of such high quality and stand out style wise.
Re: Best of the Best: War Drums
This one is hard, so many great looking minis.
I agree totally that the Icons of the Realms sets are way below the D&D sets Quality-wise.
1. Warforged Barbarian
Amazing detail and great colors. This Looks like a Warhammer 40k Cyborg! I only bought this mini this year for €21.50.
2. Aspect of Moradin
This is the only option to represent a dwarf under an "enlarge Person" spell and it looks great with it´s ornate armor, shield & hammer!
3. Fiendish Girallon
A four-armed large White ape with demonic red eyes - come on, it doesn´t get much better than this!
